Building a Regional Market for Hemp Materials
Cola Waste Corporation is an Oregon-based materials company developing processing capacity for hemp hurd and bast fiber in the Pacific Northwest.
The work behind the company began with a broader question: how could underused agricultural material be converted into products with real commercial demand?
Early work focused on evaluating hemp and other agricultural byproducts, comparing processing pathways, material performance, operating requirements, and potential markets. Hemp stalks emerged as a particularly compelling opportunity—not because the material lacked possible uses, but because the infrastructure connecting farms, processors, and downstream buyers remained underdeveloped.
From Hemp Stalks to Usable Materials
Cola Waste Corporation was established in 2025 to move that work from analysis into physical processing and commercial development.
Since then, the focus has narrowed around the two primary material fractions of the hemp stalk: hurd, the woody inner core, and bast fiber, the fibrous outer portion.
Processing trials have included stalk cleaning, separation, particle-size classification, fiber refinement, retting, and other methods for improving material consistency and usability. In parallel, hemp hurd has been evaluated in hemp-lime applications while conversations with builders, manufacturers, growers, and material developers have helped define what downstream users actually require.
That feedback increasingly shapes the direction of the company.
Developing Supply Around Demand
The objective is not simply to process hemp and find somewhere to sell it afterward.
Cola Waste is developing processing capability around identifiable material requirements—particle characteristics, cleanliness, moisture, density, fiber characteristics, packaging, quantities, and the needs of particular applications.
That approach also informs relationships with farms. Feedstock condition, handling, storage, logistics, and eventual end use all affect whether a stalk becomes useful industrial material.
The result is a business being built from both ends of the supply chain: understanding what regional buyers need while developing the processing and agricultural relationships required to supply it.
Where We Are Today
Today, Cola Waste Corporation is producing and qualifying hemp materials in Oregon while developing commercial supply relationships throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Hemp hurd for hemp-lime and related material applications is currently the most developed product stream. Bast fiber is produced separately, with applications and processing requirements being developed alongside prospective downstream users.
Our company remains intentionally broader than either product. Cola Waste was formed around the recovery and productive use of underutilized hemp materials, and future processing or manufacturing opportunities may extend beyond hemp materials as commercially defensible applications emerge.
